Field Survey Internship Fall 2021
Help identify fish passage barriers!
The field survey intern will assist SFEG staff with: 1) completing fish passage surveys on potential fish passage barriers in Skagit and Snohomish counties, and 2) conducting habitat assessments on Island County streams. This information is used to plan fish passage restoration projects. The main component of this internship is barrier culvert assessments. SFEGs barrier assessment team will complete Level A&B surveys according to the most current WDFW protocols to determine whether culverts are barriers to fish passage. Stream habitat assessments will be completed in a two-week period in early November. The field survey intern will be required to assist a minimum of two days (one per week) but may assist for up to 8 days (4 days per week) depending on availability.
Mileage will be reimbursed at the state approved rate. The field survey intern may be invited to assist with other activities such as weekend work parties and juvenile salmon data collection for additional experience/hours.
Interns must provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination to be eligible for this internship.
Timeline:
The position begins October 15th 2021 and will be concluded Jan 15th 2022 comprising 150 hours). This internship has the possibility of an extension for another 3 months through the winter, January-March 2022. Intern will work with SFEG staff and/or volunteers approximately 1-2 days per week. Regular work hours will be Tuesdays from 8:00am to 5:00pm (culverts)
